A peaceful verse written by a forgotten Ballyshannon Poet at the Mall Quay

                         This beautiful image was taken by Eileen Lawlor at the Mall Quay.

Thomas Edward (Tommy) Ward lived in Market Street where his family had a pub now called Sean Ógs. Those of my vintage would remember him. What follows is  part of a peaceful verse from a poem he wrote  at the Mall Quay called "EVENTIDE".

 Nought but the rippling of the Erne breaks the silence here
A holy peace reigns over all, the skies above are clear,
Yet clearer are the waters that silently doth flow
Beside the purple meadows where the blossoms gently grow;
Where faded sunbeams scatter their rays out far and wide,
And a clank of weary oars sound o'er the silent tide.

  2. Hi Ria greetings from Ballyshannon. Eileen was very creative and took this photograph for a short book of poems by William Allingham many years ago. She and I were actively involved with others in organising an Allingham festival which is still held annually.
